UPDATE: The giveaway goes to Abby Himes, who’s sister-in-law is expecting and will be lucky recipient of the soaps and belly balm! Thank you all for visiting, reading, and participating.
With the recent news of Johnson & Johnson’s resistance to removing potentially carcinogenic chemicals from its baby products, I’ve been more aware of what kinds of products are available that are safe, natural and still do the job of cleaning things that need cleaning.
I’ve always been a fan of fabulous soaps and I was charmed when I came across a line called Biggs & Featherbelle at MOM’s Organic Market in Alexandria a couple of weeks ago. The soaps were all natural, packaged in pretty little corrugated carboard with artistic wrappers and smelled fantastic. I chose two – one called Momma Bar (refreshing, with lavender oil – soothing, relaxing and antiseptic) and one called Barleqsue (seductive, with Ylang Ylang, geranium and patchouli). I used the Momma Bar soap first, it smells great, lathers well and rinses clean. I decided to look up Biggs & Featherbelle and discovered they’re also a fantastic little company owned by sisters Kelly and Kasey Evick, right up the road in Baltimore (which counts as local for us DC-dwellers, and also a small business if you’re into supporting that, too!) . I love their story, which is summed up with:
Today, armed with the collected experience and knowledge of essential oils and other critical ingredients, the mission is to create products with a purpose. Paying close attention to packaging and presentation of the company, the focus is on specific solutions for all skin types. Biggs & Featherbelle is committed to providing products that everyone enjoys and benefits from.
Happily, Biggs & Featherbelle also has a soap for safe for babies and children (but not tear-free) – Little Bigg Bar (lavender, buttermilk and chamomile). And for the pre-baby days, these smart sisters make a luscious belly balm with cocoa butter, shea butter, a variety of rich oils and tangerine and lavender essential oils. I’m a believer in belly balms – whether they completely prevent stretch marks or not, it’s such a comforting ritual to smooth them over your growing belly before bed at night, giving yourself and your baby a little massage.
I was so thrilled with what I learned about Biggs & Featherbelle that I contacted them to see if they would be willing to let Woah Baby! readers get in on the fun. And guess what: they ARE!
Biggs & Featherbelle is providing a Momma & Baby gift set including the Momma Bar, the Little Bigg Bar and a tub of Belly Balm to the lucky reader selected at random on Friday, November 18th.
